Hike, Camp, and Serve

Mill Creek Los Padres National Forest – Mill Creek Day Use (usda.gov) Located just North of Plaskett Creek Campground, and South of Kirk Creek Campground

The approximately 1.5-mile hike winds through Mill Creek Canyon, following the creek upstream through riparian vegetation under the dark shade of giant redwoods, maples and sycamores. The Scouts crossed over Lion Creek, passing waterfalls and pools where the they stopped to take a quick break and cool off. The main trail ends in a plateau above the creak with a campsite amidst a cluster of redwoods, that was in desperate need of service. Before making camp for the night. The 9 Scouts, and 5 Adult leaders spent 2 hours clearing the camp of overgrowth and fallen branches stacking them into a Tipi like structure large enough to climb in.

On this outing the Scouts learned lightweight backpacking essentials including eliminating unnecessary gear and utilizing lightweight shelter and meal options.
